Privacy Policy
Effective Date: May 23, 2026
Introduction
Welcome to MediaForge, a desktop-first app for visual FFmpeg workflows. MediaForge helps you export video, create GIFs, extract audio, work with images, and run custom FFmpeg commands—primarily on your own device.
This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the MediaForge app, our website at mediaforgeapp.com, and related services (collectively, the “Service”). Your privacy matters to us, especially because MediaForge Open is designed for local media processing.
Scope
This policy covers:
- MediaForge Open — the free, open-source desktop app available from GitHub Releases
- Our website — product information, downloads, and support pages
- Future MediaForge Pro features — such as AI Forge, expanded presets, or paid subscriptions. If we introduce account-based or cloud-connected Pro features, we will update this policy before they launch.
MediaForge Open App — Local by Default
In the current open-source edition, MediaForge is built around local processing:
What stays on your device
- Source and output media files — videos, audio, images, and other files you select or produce through the app are processed on your machine. We do not receive or store your media on MediaForge servers.
- FFmpeg execution — transcoding and conversion run locally through FFmpeg and FFprobe on your system. MediaForge does not upload your files to our infrastructure to perform these tasks.
- App preferences — for example, your chosen UI language and other settings stored on your device.
- Workflow data — built-in presets, recent tasks, and related metadata may be stored locally (for example, in a local database) to support history, presets, and the in-app experience.
What we do not collect from the Open app today
MediaForge Open does not require an account and, in its current form, does not:
- collect clipboard content
- sync your media or project data to our servers
- run mandatory in-app analytics or crash reporting to MediaForge
- automatically send your media filenames or file contents to us
If you tap links inside the app (for example, to our GitHub repository or website), your browser or operating system may handle that request separately.
Your responsibilities
You choose which files to process and where outputs are saved. You are responsible for securing your device, backing up your work, and complying with applicable laws when handling media you do not own or are not licensed to use.
Website
When you visit mediaforgeapp.com, we may collect limited information needed to operate and improve the site.
Information we may collect
- Contact information
- If you email us at support@mediaforgeapp.com, we receive the information you choose to send (such as your email address and message content) so we can respond.
- Usage and device information
- Our website may use privacy-friendly or standard analytics tools (for example, Vercel Analytics or Google Analytics, if enabled) to understand page views, referrers, browser type, and general traffic patterns.
- We use this information to improve the site and measure interest in downloads and documentation—not to sell personal information.
- Cookies and similar technologies
- The website may place cookies or use similar technologies for basic functionality, language preferences, or analytics.
- You can limit cookies through your browser settings or blocking tools.
Download pages
When you download MediaForge Open from GitHub Releases, the download is served by GitHub. GitHub may collect information according to its own privacy policy. We do not receive your media or app usage data through the download process itself.
Future MediaForge Pro Features
We may offer paid or account-based Pro features in the future, such as AI-assisted workflows, expanded preset libraries, or subscription billing. If those features involve:
- creating an account
- sending prompts or media to third-party AI providers
- payment processing
- optional cloud sync or licensing checks
we will describe the relevant data practices in an updated version of this policy and, where appropriate, at the point of use. Pro features will be optional and separate from MediaForge Open’s local workflow.
Third-Party Services
MediaForge relies on or may link to third-party services, including:
- FFmpeg / FFprobe — open-source multimedia tools installed on your system
- GitHub — source code, issue tracking, and release downloads
- Analytics providers — only on the website, if enabled
- Payment processors or app stores — only if and when you purchase Pro features
Those providers process information under their own terms and privacy policies. We do not control their practices.
Data Storage and Security
We apply reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to information we handle on the website and in any future online services. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Because MediaForge Open processes media locally, the strongest protections are on your device: disk encryption, access controls, and careful handling of sensitive files.
Information Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information only when:
- you ask us to or give consent
- we use service providers to operate the website or future online features, under confidentiality obligations
- required by law or to protect rights, safety, and security
Your Rights and Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict certain personal information we hold about you (mainly from website contact or future account features).
For MediaForge Open data stored locally on your device, you can remove it by deleting app data, uninstalling the app, or deleting output files from your filesystem.
To exercise privacy rights related to information we hold, contact us at support@mediaforgeapp.com.
Children’s Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the revised policy on this page and update the effective date above. Material changes may also be noted on our website or in the app where appropriate.
