Terms of Service

Effective Date: May 23, 2026

Introduction and Acceptance

Welcome to MediaForge. These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of the MediaForge desktop app, the website at mediaforgeapp.com, downloads, documentation, and any related services we provide (collectively, the “Service”).

MediaForge is operated by the MediaForge project team (“MediaForge”, “we”, “us”, or “our”). By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.

What MediaForge Provides

MediaForge is a desktop-first visual wrapper around FFmpeg. The open-source edition (“MediaForge Open”) helps you:

  • export and transcode video with visual presets
  • create GIFs and extract audio
  • run image utilities and custom FFmpeg commands
  • process files locally on your device using FFmpeg/FFprobe installed on your system

Our website provides product information, download links (currently via GitHub Releases), and support resources. Additional paid or subscription features (“MediaForge Pro”) may be offered in the future under separate terms shown at purchase.

Eligibility

You must be able to form a binding contract in your jurisdiction to use the Service. If you use the Service on behalf of an organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms.

Using the Service

Lawful use

You agree to use MediaForge only for lawful purposes and in compliance with applicable laws, including copyright and content-licensing rules. You are solely responsible for the media files you import, process, export, or distribute.

Your content and files

You retain ownership of your media and outputs. MediaForge does not claim ownership over files you create with the app. You grant us only the limited rights needed to operate the Service—for example, processing files locally when you run a job in the app.

Because processing happens on your machine, you are responsible for:

  • securing your device and storage locations
  • backing up important projects
  • reviewing FFmpeg commands before running advanced or custom workflows
  • ensuring you have the right to use any third-party codecs, fonts, music, footage, or other materials in your projects

FFmpeg and system dependencies

MediaForge invokes FFmpeg and related tools on your computer. FFmpeg is third-party software subject to its own licenses. You are responsible for installing, updating, and complying with the terms of FFmpeg and any other dependencies on your system.

Open edition limitations

Features, platforms, and presets may vary by version. Some capabilities shown in the app or on our website may be marked as Pro or coming soon. We may change, suspend, or discontinue parts of the Service with reasonable notice where practical.

Accounts and Pro Features

MediaForge Open does not require an account today. If we introduce account-based, cloud-connected, AI-assisted, or paid Pro features, additional terms may apply at sign-up or checkout. Those terms will supplement—not replace—these Terms unless explicitly stated otherwise.

Open Source Software

Portions of MediaForge are distributed as open-source software under the MIT License via github.com/mediaforgeapp/mediaforge.

  • You may use, modify, and redistribute the open-source components according to the applicable license.
  • The MIT License applies to the open-source code; these Terms govern your use of the MediaForge brand, website, hosted services, and any proprietary Pro offerings we provide outside the open-source repository.

Prohibited Activities

You agree not to:

  • use the Service to infringe intellectual property or privacy rights
  • upload, process, or distribute unlawful content through the Service
  • interfere with or disrupt the Service, website, or related infrastructure
  • attempt unauthorized access to our systems or other users’ data
  • misrepresent your affiliation with MediaForge
  • resell or commercially exploit the Service in a way that violates these Terms or applicable law
  • reverse engineer proprietary Pro components except where permitted by law

Nothing in these Terms limits rights granted to you under the MIT License for open-source components.

Intellectual Property

The MediaForge name, logos, website content, and proprietary Pro software (if any) are owned by MediaForge or its licensors and protected by applicable intellectual-property laws. Except for rights expressly granted in these Terms or in the MIT License, no rights are transferred to you.

Privacy

Our data practices are described in the Privacy Policy. By using the Service, you acknowledge that policy.

Downloads, Updates, and Availability

MediaForge Open is currently distributed through GitHub Releases. Downloads, release notes, and update availability may change over time. We do not guarantee uninterrupted access to any particular download mirror or version.

The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. Media processing results may vary depending on your hardware, FFmpeg build, source media, and chosen settings.

Pricing and Payments

MediaForge Open is free to download and use under its open-source license. If we offer paid Pro plans, subscriptions, or in-app purchases:

  • prices, billing cycles, and refund rules will be shown before you pay
  • purchases through the Apple App Store, Microsoft Store, or other platforms are also subject to those platforms’ terms
  • taxes may apply based on your location

Unless required by law or stated at purchase, fees are non-refundable.

Termination

You may stop using the Service at any time by uninstalling the app and ceasing use of the website.

We may suspend or terminate access to hosted services (such as the website or future online Pro features) if we reasonably believe you violated these Terms or used the Service in a harmful or unlawful way.

Disclaimer of Warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be error-free, that outputs will meet your expectations, or that FFmpeg operations will succeed for every file or preset.

Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, MediaForge and its contributors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, data, or media projects, arising from your use of the Service.

Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service will not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us for the Service in the twelve months before the claim, or (b) USD $50.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply to you.

Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless MediaForge and its contributors from claims, damages, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from your media, your use of the Service, or your violation of these Terms or applicable law.

Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws applicable to MediaForge’s operator, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Disputes should first be raised with us at support@mediaforgeapp.com. Nothing in these Terms limits mandatory consumer rights in your jurisdiction.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Revised Terms take effect when posted on this page with an updated effective date. Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
